The Predator Approach To Wooing Prospects

He was staring at her with an almost predatory glee. Standing next to him I could definitely sense his energy level rising. I’d witnessed this scene play out numerous times and knew what was coming next.

He slapped me across the chest, “Dude, she is hot. I’m gonna go get the hook-up.” And he marched towards here with a forced nonchalance to his step.

Now, I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that everyone has had a friend like this at some point… always desperately seeking the opposite sex and pursuing them two steps shy of caveman-style (no offense meant to the Geico cavemen).

If you’ve known someone like the above then you also know it never really goes well. Yet, for some reason they keep at it. “The law of numbers,” is how they justify it.

Anyone with common sense knows this approach doesn’t end well. So, why is it that so many businesses follow this same approach? Pursuing prospects and hammering them with blatant pitches poorly shrouded in bad content…

All I can hope for is that Marketing Darwinism quickly weeds these businesses out of the market. It will since approaching marketing in the above method repels your prospect and, do it often enough, they’re telling their friends. They’ll be out of business soon enough.

Now, my buddy above, I pulled him aside and told him the same thing I tell my clients today:

“Relationships close the deal.”
